North Shore-LIJ extends relationship with Physicians’ Reciprocal Insurers

Region’s Largest Healthcare Provider Renews its Professional and General Liability Insurance Program with Three-Year Agreement

(Roslyn, NY – March 2, 2010) Physicians’ Reciprocal Insurers (PRI), the second-largest malpractice writer in New York State, today announced that North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System has renewed its contract with the company for professional and general liability insurance through 2012. PRI has been North Shore-LIJ’s insurance provider since 2004 and, while both companies have grown significantly, the partnership continues to strengthen.

North Shore-LIJ is the region’s largest healthcare provider, consisting of 14 hospitals, centers of progressive care, long-term care facilities and home health agencies. Its facilities are staffed by more than 7,500 physicians, and 9,500 nurses and other healthcare professionals.

In addition to acting as its primary professional liability insurance carrier, PRI will continue to support North Shore-LIJ’s patient safety and risk management education efforts. In past years, PRI has sponsored nationally recognized speakers that highlight innovative healthcare approaches. The company looks forward to partnering on future initiatives that make it easy for North Shore-LIJ to embrace progressive concepts and limit its overall liability.

“We are excited to continue our relationship with North Shore-LIJ, which is one of the premier healthcare institutions in the state,” said Anthony Bonomo, CEO of PRI. “At PRI, we pride ourselves on being good partners to our insureds and we are glad that we have been able to collaborate with North Shore-LIJ in developing programs that meet their evolving needs.”
