Physicians’ Reciprocal Insurers to Host Half-Day Wellness Retreat on the Impact of Mindfulness on Patient Care

Physicians’ Reciprocal Insurers (“PRI”), the second largest admitted medical malpractice insurer in New York State, will be hosting a no-cost educational retreat, “A Half Day Wellness Retreat: Addressing Physician Burnout, Building Resilience and Promoting Flourishing in Medical Practice,” on Saturday, November 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the company’s headquarters in  Roslyn, New York. Dr. Michael “Mick” Krasner, MD, FACP, a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, is the featured speaker.

Dr. Krasner, who maintains a primary care internal medicine practice, has invested nearly two decades in educating physicians, medical students, and patients on mindfulness-based stress reduction as a major component of self-care. His work focuses on the effects of mindfulness practices on stress levels and the well-being of the elderly, and medical students, among others. Having worked with several thousand physicians and other health professionals over the years, Dr. Krasner has built a reputation as a world-leading researcher in the connection between health care professionals’ well-being and the effectiveness and quality of care.

“The practice of medicine can be stressful,” said Phillip Robbins, M.D., Medical Director at PRI. “Doctor Krasner provides insight into how a person’s state of mind and awareness of their immediate situations impacts not only the care they provide their patients but also how it influences their own well-being and mental health.”

The complimentary half-day retreat begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17 with a brief breakfast.  Dr. Krasner’s presentation will include how practicing mindfully can improve quality of caring and perhaps allow for deeper connections in working with patients.  All healthcare professionals are invited to attend, it is not necessary to be a PRI insured member. Physicians will earn 4 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

This event is the latest example of PRI’s ongoing commitment to supporting the New York medical community by providing access to world-class experts on the issues that impact quality of care. Past speakers have included Colin West, MD, PhD, Jo Shapiro, MD, Danielle Ofri, MD, PhD, and Pat Croskerry, MD, PhD.
