Employment Contract Review

When I talk with senior residents about their employment contracts, their number one concern is invariably, what they are getting paid. There are many parts to an employment contract. What kind of malpractice insurance, if any is being provided? Does it cover me for my patients I saw if they sue me after I leave the practice or hospital? I have actually seen contracts requiring to reimburse the practice for any finding in an insurance audit for patients they saw. The problem is, is that they were paid on a salary. The practice was paid for these patients, not the young physician. Some practices require a restrictive covenant within a certain distance for offices that the physician never worked in (unless filling in for a sick physician). These and many more are issues to consider over and above the amount you are getting paid. Use an experienced healthcare attorney to review your contract before you sign it!
