Using Telemedicine at Your Practice

Telemedicine is not meant as a vehicle to increase your income during the COVID-19 pandemic. When you are performing a patient “visit” via telemedicine, if you are charging the government, the services must be medically necessary. Your chart must reflect the nature and reason of your “visit”. Your chart should document the visit to the same level of documentation as an in-office visit requires. If not, be prepared to get penalized in a post-payment audit down the line. Use, do not abuse the privilege of telemedicine. It will allow you to practice more efficiently.

Stay safe!
